PRO-ACTIVE North London E-Newsletter Issue 5 - August 2011

The NEW North London Club and Coaching Development programme contains a wide range of nationally recognised qualifications and courses for sports coaches, leaders, volunteers, officials and participants from all levels of involvement in sport and physical activity.

Sport England has launched a £50million programme refurbish and improve up to 1000 community sports clubs.

 As part of the BBC / British Swimming Big Splash campaign to get the UK in the pool more often and to help people learn to swim ahead of 2012; in May 2011 London Swimming launched www.swimmingoffers.org with the aim of getting 20,000 more Londoners swimming more regularly.

Young street dancers from the Borough of Barnet fended off competion from 6 other London boroughs to win the 2011 Dare2Dance battle of the boroughs.

New physical activity guidelines for all four UK home countries, covering early years; children and young people; adults; and older adults are now available.

Apply by the 15th October 2010 for projects that focus on the differences made to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people. Small grants of £10,000 or less per year are available for periods of one to three years

Inspired Facilities is focused on making it easier for local community and volunteer groups to improve and refurbish sports clubs or transform non-sporting venues into modern grassroots sport facilities.

The two colleges combined to organise one project – Performance Circus – based on a previous project – Dare to Dance Empowerment Day which involved taster sessions in a variety of dance alongside a couple of new activities including bellydancing,urban dance,streetcheer,pole dance,circus skills and hula hooping

The aim of the project was to give interested parties the skills necessary to use the tools found on the www.promotingactivitytoolkit.com website. PRO-ACTIVE West London then worked with the sport development teams to develop project, utilising the toolkit, for Play Sport London Funding. The result was that projects could better target and communicate their projects.
