Have your say on Places People Play London 2012 legacy
In November 2010, the Places People Play programme was announced which will be delivered by Sport England and the Government, in partnership with the British Olympic Association, British Paralympic Association and with the backing of The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
Places People Play will bring the 2012 Games to life in local communities across the country. This programme will ensure that the spirit, excitement and emotion of the Olympics and Paralympics have an impact long after the Games leave this country, ensuring that a sporting culture and infrastructure is left for future generations to enjoy.
The £135 million initiative has been made possible by the Government’s National Lottery reforms, which are bringing additional funding into grassroots sport.
The Places strand will transform the places where people play sport, making the benefits of London 2012 visible in cities, towns and villages across the country by modernising up to a thousand local community sports clubs through the Inspired Facilities programme.
Given the importance of clubs to sport at community level, and the impact of the potential programme, sport England are proposing to make up to a thousand grants available of between £20,000 -£150,000.
